About
Jon’s work relies on the building and interplay of layers to create depth and narrative. Paint and collage are disrupted; sanded, scraped and peeled back to reveal traces of what came before. A sense of history develops within each piece; an intimate balance between the present and previous iterations.
For him, painting is a practice of discovery where life, memory and the abstract coalesce. Each piece begins with an openness to possibility and his work is allowed to unfold organically, even when observation lays the foundation, “...I trust the painting to guide its own direction, letting intuition and process shape the outcome.”
He lives in the beautiful landscape of Carmarthenshire and is bounded by Bannau Bryceiniog and the dramatic coastlines of Pembrokeshire and the Gower. Rich sources of inspiration.
Works are created plein air and in the peaceful retreat of his garden studio.
He trained at the Royal College of Art, London, and at Carmarthenshire College of Art.
